"Rose" Written Instructions
“The imagination is an incredible thing”, the magician says as he removes a red handkerchief from his pocket. He allows the handkerchief to unravel, magically producing a rose. The magician hands the rose to a spectator and places the handkerchief back into his coat pocket. He removes a single petal from the rose, places it into the center of his hand and makes it vanish. “Without imagination, we miss out on some of the most beautiful things in life.” The magician makes a gesture over his empty hand, causing the rose petal to appear again. “With the help of our imaginations, however, we are able to see the petal again.”
The magician asks the spectator to remove another petal from the rose and hand it to him. He places one petal in his left hand and another in his right. “With just a wiggle of the thumbs the two petals actually change places.” The magician laughs, reveals that he still has one petal in each hand and tries it once more, still keeping one petal in the left hand and one in the right. “I’ll do it again but a little bit different.” This time the petal vanishes from his left hand and appears alongside the other petal in his right. “You can do it too,” the magician explains as he asks the spectator to hold out their other hand. He places one petal in the spectator’s hand and one in his own. With just a wiggle of the thumb, the petal vanishes from the magician’s hand and appears alongside the other petal in the spectator’s hand.
“Like I said before, you can only truly see it happen if you are using your imagination. Let’s try it one last time.” The magician hands both petals to the spectator again and asks them to pretend to remove an invisible petal from the rose and hand it to him. The magician wiggles his thumb and reveals that both of his hands are completely empty. “Did you give me a petal, or did you only imagine yourself giving me one?” asks the magician. “Remember, with the help of our imaginations, we are able to see the beautiful things in life. If you are truly using your imagination, then please slowly open your hand and prepare to create the impossible.” The spectator slowly opens their hand and, to their amazement, there are now three rose petals in their hand. The magician removes the three petals from the spectator’s hand and displays them for the audience to see. “Thank you so much for helping me create the impossible. I would like to leave you with a gift to remind you that this is the day that you remembered how it felt to be young again.” The magician holds the rose in one hand and the three petals in the other. One at a time, he places the petals back onto the rose and hands it to the spectator to keep as a gift.
