For anyone considering doing magic as a full time job, it is worth understanding how off seasons work and preparing yourself for the slow times during the year. This week, Michael O'Brien offers some solutions on how you can supplement your income when you are not booking as many magic gigs as you would like.
How to Supplement your Income in the Off Season!
For any kind of business there are always going to be busy times of the year as well as slow times of the year. For magicians, depending on the type of magic you do and where in the world you live, you may find yourself going from 3-4 gigs a week to 1-2 gigs a month in the blink of an eye! So what can we do to make sure that our wallet isn't suffering and we can afford to keep the lights on and the fridge full? Let's take a look at Michael's 3 favorite ways to supplement income!
Before We Start!
It is very very important to note that there is no shame in getting yourself a part time job during the slow times to cover the bills. Even if it means just picking up a job at Starbucks or your local fast food establishment. NEVER feel like you need to be 100% sustained by your magic, because sometimes it is a bit unrealistic depending on the time of year. If you are concerned with your part time conflicting with your magic schedule, then take a look at the following 3 examples!
Ride Share Services / Delivery Services
Driving for ride sharing services like Uber or Lyft as well as delivery services like Grub Hub, Amazon, or UberEATS can be a great way to earn some extra cash. Sign up is really easy and as long as you meet the minimum requirements you will be able to get started within a week of signup! Having passengers in your car can be a great way to advertise yourself and your services as well. Don't like having passengers in your car? Driving for a delivery company means you are doing basically the same thing only delivering products instead of people.
Use Uber Code: michaelo15334ue to earn more $$$
What does "Flipping Products" actually mean? Basically there are two ways to do this; Purchase items for low cost and then sell them yourself for a higher price, or drop ship items from a 3rd party. So what is the difference between the two? I may go to a yard sale and see a really cool collectible mug. I buy the mug for $1 then post it on an online store like Ebay and sell if for $10. I just made a $9 profit. Drop shipping is a similar concept, however works a bit differently. When you drop ship, you will post items that you do not physically own and then when a client purchases from you, you will pay a 3rd party to ship the item for you. drop shipping is nice because don't need to actually own the item in order to sell it to someone. For example, I post a watch online for $20. Someone buys it from me, then I purchase the watch for $10 from a drop shipping website (like AliExpress.com) and they ship it to the client for me. I just made a $10 profit.
